The is by far my favorite statistics package. R Commander adds a basic script editor and access to most popular commands via GUI. However, the underling "R" package is the thing that you should be interested here and R Commander delivers it.

I really love the r-language. It provides endless possibilities to do statistics on a high level with enormous numbers of contributed packages. I'm very much open towards a front-end GUI to R. However, I find its possibilities limited. I prefer a text editor with a plug-in. May be good for teaching purposes though.

The functionality of R Commander is not limited to what comes out of the box, you can add more through plugins. Although 1.6-4-1 is good, there is a newer version (1.8-3) out which provides even more functionality.

To get the best of R though, you need to delve into the command line.
